Uni Ladies Rugby robbed of famous win

November 30, 2006

University of
Plymouth Ladies Rugby 5 v

University of
Exeter Ladies Rugby 5

A last gasp try by

Exeter
University robbed Plymouth University Ladies Rugby team of a famous victory in the latest round of BUSA fixtures.UOPRFC who had an excellent win at
Worcester the previous week started the game brightly playing against the slope in the first half. The
Plymouth forwards were using the driving maul to good effect pushing back the Exeter Ladies team. Some good defensive work also by Teresa Bintoh and Naomi Wise insured that
Plymouth maintained possession. Indeed as the first half drew to a close it was
Plymouth who were looking the more likely team to score. A scrum near the
Exeter line saw the
Plymouth forwards drive over the line. Unfortunately they were unable to ground the ball.
Plymouth though was to have their reward early in the second half. A good break by the impressive Bintoh took her to within feet of the
Exeter line where she off loaded the ball to Biz Palmer to crash over.Another fantastic break by Bintoh saw her nearly go the full length of the pitch only to be denied again by a last ditch tackle by the Exeter full back.

The last ten minutes saw
Exeter finally get into the game as they pushed for an equalising try. It looked as if
Plymouth were going to hold out until
Exeter with the very last play of the match scored under the posts. Fortunately for
Plymouth the conversion was missed and the points shared.
