GREASE STARRING HAYLEY EVETTS AND JARROD CARLAND PRESENTED BY PAUL NICHOLAS AND DAVID IAN

September 26, 2006

GeaseGREASE STARRING HAYLEY EVETTS AND JARROD CARLAND PRESENTED BY PAUL NICHOLAS AND DAVID IAN TUESDAY 26 SEPTEMBER – SATURDAY 7 OCTOBER 2006 THEATRE ROYAL PLYMOUTH

Grease hits the Theatre Royal Plymouth for a limited two week season from Tuesday 26 September to Saturday 7 October 2006. Hayley Evetts (Pop Idol, Popstars and Cruel Holiday) will star as Sandy whilst Jarrod Carland (Showboat, Phantom of the Opera, Saturday Night Fever, Cats) takes on the role of Danny. The cast also features Stuart Ramsay, Deborah Hayward, Angus Macmillan, Ricky Rojas, Joseph Connell, Karen Holmes, Joanna Rapley, Emma-Jay Hurst, Jason Capewell, Hugo Harold-Harrison, Christie Whelan, Ashleigh Gray, Soeli Parry, Tyman Boatwright, Ryan Quish, Gregory Sims, Daniel Smith, Jonathan Sephton, Nicky Milford, Gemma Whitelam, Charlotte Bull, Kelly Ewins & Becky Hanks. It needs no introduction – Grease is the word! Since breaking out on Broadway in 1972 Grease’s place has been firmly established in the cultural Hall of Fame, having seduced the hearts of millions with its back-to-back sizzling tunes and winning the viewers’ vote to become the Number One Greatest Musical of Channel 4’s “100 Greatest Musicals”. The last UK tour of Grease (December 2003-January 2005) enjoyed phenomenal success, playing to sell-out audiences and smashing records wherever it went: it was the most successful one-week show ever at Nottingham’s Royal Concert Hall; in Sunderland it broke the box office record (previously held by Cats); in Bristol the show sold out seven weeks prior to opening; at the Edinburgh Playhouse it was the first show since Showboat, twelve years earlier, to sell out before opening. Back by popular demand, the current international tour of Grease premiered at the Manchester Opera House in July 2005 and has since played venues throughout the UK and Europe. The tour continues throughout 2006 with confirmed future venues in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, Dartford, Leeds, Torquay, Northampton, Norwich & Stoke. Talking of the show’s enduring appeal, the producer David Ian commented “I am absolutely delighted that Grease continues to thrill audiences both young and old and I truly believe it is the most popular musical of all time.” Hayley Evetts first came to the nation’s attention as a finalist in “Pop Stars” before coming fifth in the first series of the TV reality phenomenon “Pop Idol”. Following this success, Hayley went on to present “Popstars The Rivals” with Dane Bowers and her own show “Cruel Holiday” for the Sky TV channel Trouble. Hayley has been performing Grease in her bedroom since she was a little girl and was delighted to make her professional theatre debut playing Sandy at the Palace Theatre, Manchester during the Christmas season in 2003/4. She reprised the role in Dublin in July/August 2004 and then in Birmingham (her home town) during Christmas 2005. Hayley was delighted to return to the role of Sandy, for this current international tour. She said “It is a dream come true!” Jarrod Carland is fast becoming one of Australia’s brightest musical theatre stars both at home & on the international stage. Originally an opera singer, he has performed in over 20 productions with the Victoria State Opera and The Australian Opera. In theatre, Jarrod has performed with some of Australia’s top theatre companies. His credits include: The Fat Boy (Playbox Theatre Company), The Protagonist (Sydney Theatre Company) & as ‘Aramis’ in The Three Musketeers (Australian Shakespeare Company). On the international stage Jarrod has appeared as Frank Manero Jnr in the Australasian premiere of Saturday Night Fever & in the lead role of ‘Munkustrap’ in the World Tour of Cats. His other musical credits include, Into the Woods, Ruddigore & Hello Dolly! and touring Australia with his cabaret Back to Bacharach. Most recently Jarrod played ‘Steve Baker’ in Showboat at the Royal Albert Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra & prior to this he played the lead role of ‘Raoul’ in the World Tour of The Phantom of the Opera. Jarrod also performs as a concert soloist throughout Australasia, the UK and Europe Grease has proved that a musical love story, bursting with denim, cheerleaders, slick hairstyles and raging teenage hormones is timeless. Everyone has their favourite Grease character. As leader of the rebellious T-Birds, Danny Zuko is achingly cool. He’s the sexy High School heart-throb every chick desires. Sandy’s the new girl in town, a sweet-natured true beauty but a real square. Feisty Rizzo, leader of the Pink Ladies, is loud, sassy and sexy – she’s a girl who likes living dangerously! Loveable Frenchy just dreams of going to beauty school. Smooth operator Vince Fontaine leaves his female fans in near hysteria. Prudish Principal Miss Lynch’s attempts to keep a tight reign on the mayhem are in vain. This production originally opened in the West End in 1993 (co-produced with Robert Stigwood) where it enjoyed a fantastic run of 6 years. Grease is the perfect outing for all the family – a slice of 50s Americana guaranteed to have even granny hand jiving in the aisle! Written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, directed by David Gilmore (Daisy Pulls It Off, The Hired Man, Footloose) and choreographed by Arlene Phillips (Starlight Express, Saturday Night Fever & BBC TV’s “Strictly Come Dancing” and “Strictly Dance Fever”) the show features all the unforgettable songs from the hit film including ‘You’re The One That I Want’, ‘Sandy’, ‘Grease Is The Word’, ‘Hopelessly Devoted’ and many more.

Dates: Tuesday 26 September – Saturday 7 October 2006 Performances: Mon – Thurs 7.30pm, Fri 5.30pm & 8.30pm, Sat 5pm & 8.30pm Tickets: £11.50 – £30.50 (discounts and concessions available) Box Office: (01752) 267222 or online at www.theatreroyal.com
